The selection popover
Highlight text on any web page and a small popover appears with AI actions. It’s the feature you’ll probably use most. You can also reach the same actions from the right-click menu, even where the popover is switched off.
The popover needs a free account. If you’re signed out you’ll see “Sign in free to unlock AI.”
What you can do
- Summarize - as one sentence, bullet points, or the shortest possible version. Regenerate shorter or longer in a tap.
- Translate - into 30+ languages, with tones like Formal, Casual, Academic, Literary, Technical, or Friendly. A “Show original” toggle keeps the source in view.
- Rewrite - change the tone: Professional, Casual, Academic, Friendly, Assertive, Humor, Reddit, or X (Twitter).
- Improve - quick presets such as more polite, remove jargon, more persuasive, add details.
- Fix grammar - a one-shot correction shown as a word-level diff.
- Continue - extend the passage in the same voice.
- Explain, Fact-check, and Key takeaways - understand or pressure-test what you’re reading.
- Ask AI - free-form questions about the selection, with follow-ups and saved custom prompts. (AI-suggested questions are a Pro feature.)
- Highlight - save the passage to your library; see Highlight text on any page.
- Listen - read the selection aloud; see Dictate & listen.
When a result is ready you can Copy, Replace, Insert, or Apply it back into the field.
Turn it off where you don’t want it
Some sites don’t play well with floating popovers. From the popover’s menu choose Disable on this site or Disable everywhere. You can manage the allow/block lists precisely in Settings → Writer → Where it appears. You can also switch the popover to only appear on a keyboard trigger or when you pause typing.
Where your text goes
